The events that happened in France the last months, with a very instable situation after the dissolution of the National Assembly made my Emmanuel Macron is putting France is a blocked an uncertain situation. To this extend it is very difficult to plan what the next years of the French political life will look like. But this situation is the emerged face of the iceberg : it reflects the bad path France is taking for many years. The decadence of the French system is showed in many ways that the current political situation reveals.
The current situation is showing the negative effects of tendencies happening for many years. Actually, if you consider the worldwide situation, this trend is normal. In the History the powers have shifted of place regularly. Concerning individual countries for instance there was a rivalry between Great Britain and France in the XVIIth, XVIIIth and XIXth century but these two countries were outcompeted by the United States, the USSR, Germany and Japan in the Second World War. Today it looks that the XXIst century is an Asian one from the beginning : the advent of the September 11th attacks was prepared in Asia, the rise of China, the less important but significant rise of India, the Indo Pacific area beginning the first trade area in the world… These factors are making Asia the first economic area in the world and the center of all the major events of the XXIst century.
Asia looks like, in many ways, Europe in the XVIth century. The reference to the great periods of the past and the battle for innovation at the same time can be seen for instance in China. Today Confuceanism is widespread in society, the great competitions to select civil servants have been put in place again… China invested a great deal in education as well, which contributed to create a great middle class. This reference to the great times of the past look like Europe during the Renaissance and its constant reference to Antiquity, the curse to erudition and the emancipation of science towards theology which will lead to great scientifical and technical innovations. Asia contrasts today with the declining Western world, which is despising its teachers, neglects the education of its population and doesn’t prepare the future of its society. The decline of the Western countries and the advent of Asia as the leading area of our century is logical and it is necessary for Western politicians to think more in the long run to prepare the next generations to the great upcoming technological evolutions for instance.
It is the reason why combining two long term investments in education and innovation, while making the overall population work more (except penible jobs…) can contribute in my opinion to overcome the declining path of the Western countries. The worrying amount of debt, which is degradating the redistribution system, the bad working conditions of teachers or doctors in hospitals… contribute to create an insane environment which favours the rise of the extreme right. To this extend it could be positive to be more ambitious for the Western countries to promote our cultures and values while participating to the battle of innovation ; but an underground work has to be made to foster education and entrepreneurship. France, for instance, should defend more the figures of Erasme or Hugo the same way China put more Confucius at the center of its system. The level of political debates in France is often pathetic with “ad hominem” permanent attacks without considering enough the economy, the desindustralization of France, the future of the redistribution system… This mediocrity is detrimental to our country as these subjects are very important and have really concrete impact. The journalist Duhamel criticized this trend and in my opinion he is right to do so. It is the reason why the political context of today is revealing sadly realities that exist for many years and that should be tackled.
