The European Union is at risk today because of the outcome of the legislative elections in France. To this extend it looks necessary to figure out the impact of French power in Europe. To this extend it looks necessary to engage for a better future to this extend.
In a context of rising China and a lack of influence of the western world, the European Union looks to be a necessary refuge. To this extend it looks detrimental to figure out that Europe is threatened by the outcome of the legislative elections. As Germany and France are motors of this Union, the fact that France can go to the Extreme Right looks to challenge a lot this institution. The fact this Union doesn’t look to protect enough low income workers, look to favor an excessive free exchange system that leads to the impoverishment of the middle class, the legacy of this institution is attacked at its core. However it is necessary to remember that this Union contributed to the PAC, for instance, that is greatly protecting French farmers against competition of globalization.
Moreover the European Union is a detrimental asset to protect our interests in an area of globalization. As the demography is more and more disadvantageous, the rise of Asia is making the Western world less influential in the world. The vote for the extreme right is a fear of decline, but to the same extend the solutions proposed look to increase this decline. In my opinion Emmanuel Macron spoilt his great intelligence by an excess of arrogance, and probably a lack of human values. To many extend he was very disappointing : the level of the debt increased a lot during his presidency, moreover the state of education was worse and worse ; moreover he didn’t support Gabriel Attal who really fought against bullying at school, which is a real scandal. It is understandable that Macron is being unpopular, partly because he betrayed those who wanted to see in him a real factor of change. But voting the extreme right is going back to what Sartre describe as the fact that intolerance (antisemitism in his case) rises when people want to find scapegoats in their fear of decline.
The European Union is often different that what France figures out about it. Its unity is not that real. Often it looks to be a compromise between a economic alliance led by Germany concerning the business part ; and the United States is leading the defense part. The French initiatives concerning the European Union are often not relevant. For instance the axis Paris-Berlin-Moscow, even before the Ukraine war, and that was promoted by the French, was a complete failure. It looks necessary to redefine the ability of the European Union to propose real solutions to its citizens. For instance the former Prime Minister Valls advocated a pause in the extension of the European Union. It looks to be a good solution to consolidate political institutions. Those factors are necessary to make the European Union closer to its citizens, and not look like a bureaucratic institution that is too often led by lobbies and is not protecting enough for citizens, for instance against the unloyal investments of China in many strategic companies.
