Recently the Chinese electric cars have shocked a lot of car producers. In fact it is noticeable that China is occupying a lot of ground concerning this industry. That is the reason why it is possible to say that this offensive can create a major dependency of European industry. This threat should not be in any case underestimated.
The car industry has been a symbol of the Western supremacy during the XXth century. To this extend it is very symbolical that China is attacking this industry. It is noticeable that the Chinese communist party is seeking the exact reverse situation than in the XIXth century, when it suffered from its lack of advance in the industrial revolution. To this extend China has today the ability to take a great revenge. That is the reason why the coming years will be decisive in the contest between this country and the Western world.
Of course this offensive, which is extraordinary, is making the usual assertion of the upcoming catastrophe of the Chinese economy we hear for so many years wrong. If China has many threat, for instance in the building industry, its system is, in many aspects, working better than the western system. It is terrible to notice the difference of efficiency between China from the reformative Deng Xiaoping area and the Western world from the Reagan and Thatcher area, which is dominant for 40 years. The fact China is thinking strategically, with long term plans, was really effective in the car industry : today, after years of planning, it is controlling the whole production of its electric cars, which is creating a considerable advance compared to the west.
The idea is not to idealize the Chinese communist party strategy. However it may be necessary to rethink radically the neo liberal dominant system. Rehabilitating long term plans, implementing more collaborations between the state and the companies could create a more sustainable system. It is not being communist to say that. But the current period is showing a real difference of efficiency between a Chinese economy quite close to Keynesian principles and the Western world under the rules of the school of Chicago of Milton Friedman. The symbolic car industry is illustrating this difference.
China has the ability to outcompete the Western world in many fields now. In crypto currencies, in artificial intelligence, and today in cars, without forgetting the aerospace industry in the coming years. A real revolution in on the way. It can be countered, but it is necessary to the Western world to think again its approach of the economy. This path has to be made, but it looks more and more urgent to consider it.
