Feminism looks to be in appearance a very considered policy. Many declarations are made to this aspects, and many laws are created to protect more the rights of women, which is a very good thing. However it is necessary to sustain this fight, while many trends look to counter it.
It is indeed a constant fight that is far from being over. The rise of religious radicalism look to counter approaches that favor moderate views. If you look at Christianity, the parabole Marth and Mary is very feminist : Mary, who was listening to the teaching of Jesus, was complimented and was said that the real place of a woman was listening a teaching, not doing the washing up. For those reasons it is necessary to say that religions can be great supports for feminist causes. Luther as well, for instance, was the first one in history to educate massively women in Germany during the XVIth century. It can explain, for instance in Germany, why women have in general more access in high positions than in France : for instance Angela Merkel was during 16 years in power, while in France it is only the second time in history there is today a woman Prime minister.
This approach is also necessary to implement feminism. This approach has to be followed in many ways. But it looks that in France there are too few women in position of power, don’t have the same wages as men… While France is one of the most feminist countries in the world. It looks that it may be detrimental to ask why this situation is still occurring, while many laws protect the right of women. There are still a real problem of mentality that prevent things to evolve.
The pension reform is in a way illustrating this issue. There is no law or measure that protects the right of women for retirement, while women often have more complex carriers, as they often take more time than men to take care of children, and so on. It is the symptom of a reform which doesn’t consider enough complexities of situations. It looks not normal that women are not more protected in this context and to do as if there is a real equality of chance. If I believe the majority of the population has to work more to sustain a sounded system, including the unique (in the world) French social system, it is necessary to create more protections for penible jobs, low paid workers, and so on ; and those protections must include the situation many women live. That is the reason why the pension reform doesn’t consider enough complex situations, and is likely to create real and legitimate social issues, today and in the future.
That is the reason why engaging more for feminism in all fields is necessary. It is possible to consider that more laws should protect women in companies, professional training for women complex carriers should be more developed, and so on. In politics, it is not normal also that women are so underrepresented. Those factors show that a real work should be led to consider the question of the role of women in society : why are they so underrepresented in top positions in society? Moreover, it looks that the most inclusive countries with women (Germany, Northern European countries…) are often the most economical developed. In my opinion countries including more women are more likely to succeed. The rigid and conservative mentality we tend to still have too often in France is a real obstacle to this aspect. And the sad thing is that, again, France is one of the most feminist countries in the world.
A real work has then to be made to develop more those aspects. A real investment of time has to be made as this issue will take time to be overcome. That is the reason why a serious debate has to be made about this subject. Unions could be also more taken into account in companies to lead this fight. We tend to much to take those organizations as factors of conflict, as Marxism has a strong tradition in France, while unions open to dialog could contribute in companies to make advance the cause of women in many companies and organizations. But this battle has to be led in many battlefields : in politics, in the economical world, and also in the religious sphere, where radical interpretation of texts, whatever the religion it concerns, gain too much ground.
