The rise of the extreme right : a real danger

The rise of the extreme right is noticeable in France, but also in many countries in the Western world. For instance the advent of Donald Trump, to some extend, in the United States in a symptom of this rise. Many factors explain this rise, and many of them are very classical.

It is possible to say that we live in a time that many divisions, that have always existed, are coming back. The way education is falling apart, as well as the rise of mediocrity in politics for instance, show that there are many symptoms of decadence in France. In fact it can be said that education is a way to deal with this trend. It looks that trends that have always existed, such as religious divisions, are coming back, because radical tendencies are rising.

Sartre said, in his book the Jewish question, that antisemitism stemmed from the small bourgeoisie that was declining economically and who looked for a scapegoat. That is the reason why this rise of the extreme right is also linked to the fear of the others, immigrates, and so on. If there are people who abuse from the system when they come to France, they are also those who make efforts to integrate, to reconcile their culture to the French one… This demeanor is very important to notice, and as well to encourage. It is noticeable that, in Germany, many immigrants have been welcomed, with training for instance in IT or in the German language. For those reasons it is noticeable that implementing a long term policy of training for these immigrants may be beneficial for everybody : for immigrants themselves of course, but also for the low qualified French who will be less likely to suffer from the competition of migrants who are ready to do the same work as them with a much lower price.

The rise of extreme right looks to be a fear of the future. Industries have deserted a lot of campaigns, to go to less developed countries, who can ensure these skills at a much lower price. That is the reason why it is important to rethink the system to make trainings to sectors that will be sectors of the future. This system is implemented in Germany. This approach is much more likely to work in the long run. That is the reason why rethinking professional training can be a way, in the middle/long run, to fight the rise of the extreme right. It is traditional that workers without any prospects will turn against foreigners or immigrants. That is the reason why it looks necessary to rethink the system to fight this trend and give prospects to adapt this workforce to sectors that will impact the future.

As I was willing to do training as an entrepreneur, I saw that one of the main weaknesses of the workforce was it lack of skills in foreign languages. That trend looks to be detrimental to the system ; again the German system put its focus on foreign languages, which is one of the reasons of the competitivity of its companies. That is the reason why it looks necessary to think about the way to build the future. As we enter in a period with a lot of technological important evolutions, it looks necessary to think the adaptation to these evolutions. Moreover, learning foreign languages is an indirect way to open to different cultures and ways of thinking, which can be useful to fight the trend of communautarism.

The rise of the extreme right is linked to a false reassurance and the rejection of what is deviant, different. However, as Jacques Attali said, “societies that rejects ‘deviants’ decline”. That is the reason why this rise of the extreme right is a symptom of decadence. This rise of low instincts has to be fought by culture, openness, study of science… But thinking about giving prospects to populations who are marginalized, under the indifferent eyes of many politicians, is a necessity. It may contribute to fight the worrying trend of the extreme right.
