Biden spectacular visit to Ukraine is progressively opening a new period in international relations. The importance of symbolism in this context is showing to which extend it is possible to put tracks on those things. This approach is telling things thinking can help to provide.
First we enter in a new phase of history. America is succeeding to learn the lessons of its previous failures. Its wars in Afghanistan and Irak costed thousands of American lives and billions of dollars. On the contrary today the USA is focusing on development of its economy and of its innovation. In fact, as China focused on its economy, America focused on war.
In my opinion the current action of Biden is preparing the economical context of the future. Because this visit is not only for Putin, but also for its main opponent, China. As Putin is waging a war of the XXth century, the United States is competing with China in wars of the future. To this extend the policy of reindustrialization is led by Biden, but in fact it will be necessary to focus on the industries of the future. Today we enter in a phase of accelerated innovation in high technologies. This battle will be made in the space, in the submarines, for rare metals… This battlefield is led in a very important focus of science to this extend.
Biden is giving several messages. First the soft power is essential in long run success. It is possible to say that the Western world has been united in this fight to defend Ukraine against the expansionist will of Putin. But in fact Russia is suffering terrible humiliations: it lost thousands of men compared with no one from America (if we except the courage of the Ukrainian people), had many impact on its economy… Russia is quite succeeding to resist to Western sanctions but it is at the price to be more dependant on China, a situation Putin fears as well.
Actually Biden is making an excellent operation in Ukraine. He sold thousands of weapons, is currently giving a lesson to Putin, is warning China to do the same if they invade Taiwan, and is investing billions of dollars in infrastructure plans, rare metals and nano technologies. But this battle is opening a new phase in history. There will be a great curse on innovation, which will necessitate new investments in education, and, as said Emmanuel Macron in its 2030 investment plan, every parts of knowledge, including human science, will be part of this fight. In my opinion, Biden want to put in place the new international order, with a curse to prepare the future, in a world which is reshaping at the advantage of Asia. It has been a very long time a world not only Western is put in place, thanks to demography.
