The current approach of economics tends to damage the Earth. Environmental issues are not taken enough into account. For those reasons it is necessary to build a framework that is allowing environmental issues to be talked more effectively. However how to build this path?
The energical crisis can be a great opportunity to make the ideas of alternative economy advance. For instance it is possible to have a vision that is taking into account the human nature. In my opinion it is important to build a legal framework that is favoring more middle and small company. The European Union focused during many years in fighting distorsions of concurrence. However, if it is necessary to build champions to be able to compete with the GAFAs and the BRICs, it may also be possible to build a network.
The fact, as François Lenglet said, that societies are more looking for protection can lead to the return of the state. It seems that there are more and more programs to build the space airforce, massively invest in new technologies… The 2030 investment plan is a possibility to invest more in the green economy, for instance the green hydrogene, and to focus also on submarine economy… The European saving fund can provide such an help.
Another approach can also lead to support alternative ways of education. In many ways public schools are falling apart. For those reasons it is necessary to reinvent ways to educate people, to offer alternative ways. New technologies is a way to favor that : as Marx said, industrial revolutions have always been a way to make knowledge and education improve if humanity is able to adapt to it. To this extend the industrial revolution we live in may favor solutions that can take into account those factors. China invested for instance massively to a environmental plan of 2060 that can lead progressively to a green energy society. The European commission is planning to build a greener and more agile society. To this extend it is relying on the social market economy.
Misfortunately the COP 27 doesn’t look to give sufficient solutions. The American president Biden plans to invest million dollars on infrastructures and environmental projects, which it equivalent to the PIB of Italy. Companies are making initiatives, such as the aerian sector, which plans to build planes more compliant to the environment. To the same extend China is considering that green energy is a future industry ; and the high level of pollution in Beijing and Shanghai is making this country more difficult to attract for foreign talents. This approach is making the environment a real factor of soft power for the coming years.
Taxation can also be used to target this issue. There should be more incentives to favor environmental companies. However it is difficult to build a system that allows this kind of demeanor. Piketty, in his book rebuilding the fiscal society, is criticizing the fact big companies are not taxes enough compared to small entrepreneurs for instance. It is the role of social and solidarity economy to build an efficient and reliable economy.
This environmental crisis can be an opportunity to rethink the way the economy is working. It can also be a great opportunity for the value of the social and solidarity economy to fasten its progress. To this extend it is possible to say that the COP27 can interrogate a lot of entrepreneurs, associations and organizations to make their ideas advance.
