The result of the elections shows an impressive score realized by Marine Le Pen, and more widely, by extreme candidates. This outcome has, in my opinion, many causes. First we can see that there is a wide contestation of the classical political world. Desindustrialization, the lowering of the level of education, the precalization of middle classes have a serious impact on this disaster.
Second the outcome of the election have important impact indirectly. On the future of the European Union it can have serious impacts. On the international context we see today, with the rise of China, the European Union is more important than ever. That is the reason why it is necessary to build a working approach on this issue. Investing on education, on the technologies of the futures, creating an ecosystem that favours work and not precarizing : for instance we can compare the Amazon tools that created terrible situations in small cities and the 5G created by the Chinese that is about to create millions of jobs. Creating a ecosystem favouring the workforce is very important. But we don’t live in a country that prepare its people and its population to the future. We think short run, our political class is more occupied by personal ambitions than making the country advance.
Hegel talked about the ruse of reason, saying that history is logical in the long run. In my opinion we live in a decadent period, and the rise of Asia (China, of course, but also India which had 12% of growth last year) is about to replace in the long run western countries. But we live in the society of communication, we focus more on small sentences than on a real debate on the question of education, the necessary investment in new technologies to sustain global competition… This mediocrity is a reason that lead to the vote for extremes, a majoritarian tendency in France today. That outcome is terrible, but in a way logical.
Moreover the level of the debates was terrible. No real presidential candidates, pathetic behaviours from the runners (I think on Eric Zemmour for instance), it’s as a terrible approach of this election. All those approaches favoured le Pen. The Mc Kinsey affair, where a famous multinational is not paying some basic taxes while small entrepreneurs are paying high rates, is a real scandal. It can be really detrimental for Macron. More dangerously, it can help the extreme right access to power.
