THE NEW FIGHT OF MODELS

The time we live in shows a return of historical rivalries. Politics are more and more linked to the idea of the return of nations and of the state in the economy. The time we live in is a fight between liberals and convervatists. This approach shows the fact that the intellectual approach set my Marx is now far fetched. That is the reason why we come back to the old divisions between liberals and conservatists. Again Hegel, which was a liberal « in the classical term », looks to come back as the greatest progressist. Hegel that Marx fought all his life.

However the rise of China is showing that this division, that was on the centre stage of the post September 11 world, is not going to a new stage. First there is, in my opinion, a triumph of Keynesian views compared to neo Liberal. As a symbol Deng Xiaoping began his reformative reforms while Thatcher and Reagan came to power. 40 years later, we assist to a relatively decadent western world and to the economical triumph of the Chinese model. So today there is a new fight between two visions of liberalism. Conservative views, advocated by islamic approaches but also the reactionnary views that are spreading everywhere, look to be far fetched.

Kant said that the best expression of human might is not power but money. That approach is proved today by the danger of China. If the USSR was greatly influencial politically and ideologically, it can a economical failure. The reformative China has much more brilliant economical results. It made extraordinary accomplishments, like putting out of powerty 800 million people. This approach is showing that thinking in the long run or investing massively on education can have important positive impacts. So it looks we assist at two visions of liberalism, the neo liberal one, heir of the School of Chicago, and the keynesian approach of Deng Xiaoping.

The conservative views that are spreading everywhere even look to be symptoms of decadent western societies, and reflect the declassation of large amounts of population. Sartre in his book « thought about jewish question » told that antisemitism stems from the feeling of declassation of the small bourgeoisie.

It looks today detrimental to deal with this subjects and, on some ways, inspire from the success of China. Investing massively on education, focusing more on rebuilding the industry that disappeared, making the state return more actively on the economy and supporting more small companies that are beginning their activities is, in my opinion, a necessary task. Hegel told, in his book the reason of history that there is a logic in the long run in history. Today the fight between liberal and convervatives is not the top priority concern. The same way the rise of islamism looks to be a transition in history, a diversion that hid to the Western world the real threat of today : the extraordinary rise of China.
